Sharpuggles at the World Dog Show Budapest 2013

Our exciting adventure started on Sunday May 12th, we packed up the motorhome with our belongings and of course Charlie,Viktor and Lola and set off on our 1300 mile journey.

its a 3hr Journey to the Port Of Dover from our home and the dogs shared our enthusiasm by sleeping the whole way!  It was time to embark the Ferry for the short hop over to Calais, the weather was very poor and the crossing was very rough to say the least.

Time was getting on when we got to France and it was time to find somewhere to park for the evening, get the dogs exercised and settled down for the evening. Just a couple of hours later we stopped at a rest area in Jabiek in Belgium, Luckily the driver (my husband) does these journeys regularly so knows all sorts of places to stop for the night.

The next couple of days were more of the same, driving exercising the dogs, eating sleeping and more driving! passing through Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria and finally arriving in Budapest Hungary on the evening of the 14th May.

it was a frantic set up of the motorhome as i had entered the dogs into the Budapest CACIB show being held at the expo center the following day, this is a kind of warm up to the main event starting on the Friday, and also a warm up for me as i needed to acclimatize to the new way of showing under the FCI rules.

Considering the the length of journey they had the dogs coped really well at the show. Viktor, being just a puppy was a little overwhelmed at first but soon settled down going on to win Best Puppy in breed, Charlie achieved a CAC and Lola got a 3rd in Intermediate Bitch Graded Excellent. A very good day for Sharpuggles indeed.

Had a well earned day off to relax the following day before the excitement of the main event on the Friday.

The World Dog Show really brought a massive entry of Shar-pei from all over the World, it was good to finally meet people and put faces to names. The Dogs and Bitches were Judged in two rings at the same time, this caused a minor panic for me and others who found themselves quickly running between rings. Viktor got a Very Promising and Charlie and Lola were graded as Excellent.

All in all the whole trip was an amazing experience, we were very tired when we returned home and it took some time to get back into reality but on reflection we had a brilliant time away with the dogs and we hope to be able to make the trip to the world dog show next year.
